As of August 2022, the official Linux drivers on edimax.com site support Linux kernel up to v5.3 only.  The driver won't support kernel newer than v5.3.

However, starting from kernel v5.8, there is built-in driver of BT-8500 which uses Realtek RTL8761BU chipset.  You don't need to install any driver, i.e. Plug-and-Play.   We have Ubuntu 22.04 kernel v5.15 in this demo.

You can go ahead to Settings => Bluetooth to scan for available bluetooth devices.

In case the adapter is not plug and play for you, you may use $sudo dmesg command to verify bluetooth.

It will display any error about failing to load the bluetooth driver/firmware.

If it indicates errors in loading firmware, below are two possible solutions for your reference.
