As of Aug 26 2022, the official driver on edimax.com website support Ubuntu kernel up to v5.4 only. Any version higher than that is not supported. Users can install the open source driver at https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8188eu if the staging rtl8188eu drivers in Linux kernel v5.8-v5.13 have issues.
However, starting from kernel v5.15, Linux dropped the "old" rtl8188eu staging driver and replaced it with newer driver r8188eu maintained by lwfinger. You don't need to install any driver, i.e. Plug-and-Play in kernel v5.15.

In case the built-in driver does not work properly for you, please make sure your system is updated.
